Seduction

As I walked along the beach that night I felt the coolness of the air,
as aloof as my heart.
The breeze blew with lazy abandon
with no care to move a branch or to touch an ear with so much as a whisper.
The waves crept up under the soles of my feet and borrowed the sand
and I remembered.
That life is fragile and love is promising
both behold a wicked joy that can consume to deceive
and make believe that like the stretch of the salty silhouette,
forever is our lover.
But the lover is a two-timer with a watch that is way ahead
of the hours that keep you in reverie
while the world is amused by the folly of the heart.
I walked for miles and got nowhere,
I got lost and didn't care.
I waded in the seducing warmth
and closed my eyes in ecstasy of the escape
from the madness of man.
Man interferes,
disregards without consequence,
he stomps and destroys with the weight of his impatience.
He plunders upon discovery of easy access.
No trespassing allowed.

So, who are you? ...out of nowhere...
Out of nowhere you walked,
keeping apace, every step of the way, as if you knew the place.
You've walked here before?
Strange,
how familiar...
as if I know something about you.
That quiet assurance beckons like the tide,
that if I give you my hand would you guide me back to sanity?
I've wandered so far that I couldn't tell where to start
and the sand has washed away the footprints.
The beach is all new again
and deceives the newcomer to believe
that theirs is virgin territory when truly...
it's in the waters, emotions, desires, hopes and fears, commitment and lies.
If you venture far enough you would find those memories buried deep
beneath the surface of survival, reeled in by the relentless current
and tossed by the swell of the sea....
